Sandbach Ladies scrape a draw after coming back from 2-0 down at half time

FT Macclesfield Town LFC 2 - 2 Sandbach United Ladies

A big fixture for both of the teams today. Prior to the game Sandbach United Ladies sat 2nd in the Cheshire Women’s and Youth League, Championship Division; while Macclesfield Town LFC sat 3rd with only small margins between the 2 sides.

Kick off at Back Lane Playing Fields and Macclesfield we’re on top. Pressing high and Sandbach struggling to get a foothold in the game.

A physical side, Macclesfield we’re winning the ball in most areas of the field. Their efforts paid off, Sandbach went 1-0 down when a Macclesfield player wasn’t closed down and the shot tucked in the bottom corner.

A slight improvement by Sandbach for a period in the first half, having a spell of possession looking most likely to convert a chance from the right hand side, but to no avail.

Macclesfield came back and it was a similar story once again, lack of desire from Sandbach and a long range effort went well past the keeper making it 2-0 to Macclesfield.

In to the 2nd half, an opportunity to turn the game around for Sandbach. With more control and possession, the efforts deserved a goal but 75 minutes gone and Macclesfield we’re still 2 goals ahead.

A teasing cross from Lilo Lei which the Macclesfield keeper got terribly wrong, a fumble took the ball over the line. Back in the game, Macclesfield 2, Sandbach 1.

Play continued much the same, Sandbach keeping the pressure on and digging deep to try and get the much deserved equaliser.

Sandbach working the ball into the box and after taking a few ricochets and the ball was poked into the goal by Rochelle Ramroop. A roar from the team and supporters, Macclesfield Town 2, Sandbach United 2.

In the remaining couple of minutes of the game, both teams tried to win and gain the 3 points. Neither converting however and the game finished as a draw.

For the neutral, an exciting game with a derby like feel. Plenty of fight and battle from both sides.

Macclesfield came out stronger in the first half but Sandbach did well to prove their worth, get back into the game and show everyone the football that they can play.

Player of the match went to Lucy Wright, after playing in 3 different positions throughout the 90 minutes, she worked hard in them all and showed the resilience the team needed today. #backthebach
