Brilliant away win for Sandbach United Ladies in a friendly fixture against Runcorn Linnets.

In a week where the Sandbach United Ladies had no league fixture, the ladies truly showed how much they have technically come on as a team in the past year.

Sandbach United Ladies had most of the possession in the first half with Runcorn struggling to get a grip on the ball.

The attacking link up play between both the midfield and the strikers was sublime, creating what was numerous chances on goal.

The ladies started confident with attackers Shannon Moores, Sarah Colby and Courtney Beeston bringing the best out in everybody.

The first goal of the game was just on the stroke of half time after a fantastic through ball from Sara Noori was slipped to Sarah Colby who picked it up and hit a crisp strike into the back of the net.

However, into the second half, Runcorn Linnets finally started to get a hold of the ball and in the 58th minute scored after a free kick floated over the Sandbach back line and helplessly chipped over goalkeeper Dani Taylor to level the score.

Although Sandbach remained the better team by far, another unlucky goal was placed past goalkeeper Dani Taylor, similar to what had happened three minutes before.

Sandbach reacted well to this when inside the 70th minute, Captain Shannon Moores knocked the ball through to Courtney Beeston where she drove the ball forward and scored to level the score at 2-2.

The momentum and desire for Sandbach to win prevailed with just five minutes to go when a gap opened up inside the box for Shannon Moores where she could confidently place the ball past the Runcorn keeper.

A minute later, a mistake from the Runcorn Linnets defence meant that Sarah Colby was able to net her second goal of the game to put Sandbach United comfortably ahead at 4-2.

Sandbach United Ladies arguably played some of the best football we have seen so far this and will hopefully take this confidence into their next league fixture.

The Sandbach United Ladies manager, Steve Wright said: “It is such a great feeling when what we do in training each week finally pays off.

“Today was one of the best performances I have seen. Everyone’s input was awesome and you could see it in everybody’s body language. Our attacking was really quite breathtaking.”

Man of the Match: Millie Turner

Steve Wright said: “ She had great composure on the ball today playing just in front of the back line.

“Her passing was neat and simple and her confidence on the ball encouraged everyone to do exactly the same.”
